The Verdict is in…..

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” Have you ever met some one who is so honest its intimidating? Like if you ask them how they are they don’t lie and say fine? The ones that if you ask them what they think they won’t sugar coat it or put a mask on? Its uncomfortable isn’t it? That was the problem the Pharisees had with Jesus. His honesty was a light to the evil in their lives. It makes us uncomfortable when people are honest because it shines the light all the brighter on our dishonesty.  And yet I distinctly remember Jesus saying “let your light shine before others.” We are called to be a light to the world and that means being honest. If you have seen those commercials for some microwave pasta thing its even a joke how strange it would be if suddenly people actually started saying what they meant.  What if we did. What if we showed up today having a bad day, and when someone asks us how we are, we don’t put on the church mask? What would happen if mom and dad fought all the way to church this morning and didn’t walk into church like everything was perfect? What if we made the times we get together be the one place in the world you can find people being honest? Think that would attract some attention? Become the Target
