IT’S MY LIFE (Yes I am disappointed in myself for using a bad Bon Jovi song)

“Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship,” Romans 12:1.  Growing up in the church,  I thought worship was what I went to on Sundays and Wednesdays. I heard this verse a lot but never really knew what it meant. What was Paul asking of them? The Jews were indeed required to gather at the temple at appointed times to worship God. The only way that you could worship God was to be in the temple when you were supposed to. All the acts of worship were centered around the temple. So what it feels like Paul is saying is there is a new way of worship. Then I remember what Jesus told the Samaritan woman, “…Believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” The new place to worship was not going to be in a building but in the hearts of those who love God. Worship isn’t a Sunday and Wednesday kind of thing. Your life is supposed to be worship. We gather on Sunday and Wednesday to encourage one another by combining our lives of worship. By limiting our worship to “worship services” we miss the point all together.  It’s hard to live a life of worship, there are some many things in our lives that drag us away from that devotion and those sacrifices we make. Our gathering times were given to us to be times of refocus and recharging.  Granted that happens through our shared worship and through the reminder that there are people out there trying to lives in the same manner. A Christian’s worship cannot be limited to a service, it can only be amplified by the gathering of believers. Become the Target
